*lol-those commas are not mine. I know I abuse commas. I think of Captain Kirk talking- saying my words. I wish... he really was :D

That first quotation speaks a truth. It's why we as writers sometimes agonize over what we think we be "just the right word." The quote about words losing their luster is unfortunately true, too, if we consider so-called "social media,"which in reality isn't really social at all. When we lose our face-to-face, heart-to-heart connections, everything loses its true meaning, including what we say.

I've never known anyone else admit to abusing commas. I wonder if there's a group for them: poor, abused, misused, overused, misunderstood...

I agree with Mary Ann. Social media really isn't social, but I think Real Toads is.

Oh dear, abusing commas is a hobby of mine, but, I've been told, that when you write, and use the comma, you use it to highlight the phrase, to cause hesitation in the reading, emphasis! I think good writers do that, I just put them willy, nilly, everywhere! :)

Yolanda-lol, me too! My son read something I wrote and laughed-too many commas Ma! "No one talks like you write," he snickered. I made tea and then it struck me. I ran down the hall and knocked on his door, "Captain Kirk, talks like I write."
He shook his head laughing as I impersonated the Captain ;D

Mary Ann-Yes, you are right, so sad! I was thinking of reading words, in favorite books, not social media. Lost in translation is now the new norm! Sad...but true! Thanks for sharing :D
