Fill the Well....

There have been a lot of detours in my life the past couple of years. Julia Cameron author of The Artist's Way calls them creative U-turns.

My mom was going to move in with us, my art room is being redone into a bedroom.   As I near the finish line,  mom has decided not to come.   Another creative U-turn.   Now,....I have piles of art supplies upstairs to sort through, rearrange my new nook, and wonder how to proceed on this creative path I have traveled on.

While cleaning, I found this book and decided it was time to really embrace this venture and see what happens. The plan is twelve weeks long-with the guidelines:   I must commit to writing three morning pages, walk for 30 minute-every day,  weekly go on an art date, and do the tasks listed for each week.

"In filling the well, think magic. Think delight. Think fun.

                                                           -Julia Cameron

Week  1: Is about creativity recovery.  It is about creating a sense of safety.  It is time I am authentically me.  No more hiding.  Hell, I am related to a female warrior Viking-says 23andme.   Interesting, since I bought an issue of National Geographic featuring the Vikings, last Christmas to tuck in my husband's stocking.  In May, I discovered I am related to the warrior woman featured in this publication.  So, I guess it is time to own my space and be a bad ass.  Well, the bad ass part isn't likely, but I am not a quitter.  I am published in the autumn issue of Bella Grace.

Maybe the Rumi quote does represent the energy of most creative souls.

"Whenever you stand be the soul of that place."
         -Rumi

For safety, I am to pick an affirmation to use as a  life preserver when my ego feels trampled on.

Do you have an affirmation that lifts your spirit?

My affirmation:

"Whatever you can do, or think you can, begin it.  Boldness has genius, power and magic in it."
                 -Johanna Wolfgang Von Goethe

P.s. interestingly, the poem i am posting at poetry pantry is about a well, drinking from it. We are on the same wavelength.

Well, sorry about the U-turn.
The twelve week plan sounds like a good thing. I hope you stick with it.

I have recently embraced "step out of the line" .... someone on the recent Emmys telecast used it and it resonated. Good luck to you sweet Ella.
