U is for Umbrella

I wasn't going to do this, but when Dezz mentioned it and I do like the song. I thought why not?!

Umbrella \Um*brel"la\, n. [It. ombrella, fr. ombra a shade, L. umbra; cf. L. umbella a sunshade, a parasol. Cf. Umbel, Umbrage.]

1. A shade, screen, or guard, carried in the hand for sheltering the person from the rays of the sun, or from rain or snow. It is formed of silk, cotton, or other fabric, extended on strips of whalebone, steel, or other elastic material, inserted in, or fastened to, a rod or stick by means of pivots or hinges, in such a way as to allow of being opened and closed with ease.

Guarded caught my eye; I feel this way lately. I feel like I'm hiding behind something, afraid again to put my art out there, not finding time to commit to the projects I start. It has been an odd month, crazy weather, lots of unexpected events, surprises good n' bad. I think how sometimes we hide, when things don't turn out as we might have planned. How we need a proverbial umbrella to distract, distance ourselves from the conditions that might be uncomfortable. When in reality, we need to expose ourselves to them, let it rain on our parade, feel the intensity of the sun, be exposed. It is only then, can we move on and sing n' dance in the rain.  I like Rihanna's version, but  the Glee version blends the two songs I have in my head and I love the way, it is done. I hope you, like me put more of yourself out there and not hide under your umbrella, Ella, ella eh eh eh   ;-D Thanks Dezz~

Great post, Ella. As writers, we do have to come out from our umbrellas. Thanks for stopping by my blog. I read your profile ... I'm a military spouse, too.

Oh there are times we need to hide away, but most of the time - get on out there. How lovely to meet you (a bit late on the A-Z - how did I miss you?) but, better late than never. ;) I think you have a lot to give, I feel it in my water! LOL

Hi Ella. :)
Thank you for following my blog. It's nice to 'meet' you.
My favorite version of this song is the one my daughter sings on her guitar.

Deep analogy and thought-provoking. I keep myself out there. It is tough.

Oh I'm guilty of seeking for the umbrella.

It sort of depends on the domain I think--there are things I prefer to hide from, but on other fronts, I think I feel like I need the whole experience... pretty willing to just get wet much of the time...

I'd never heard that Umbrella song before, but I noticed that one of my nieces posted about this same song. Wow! I guess I'm really getting out of touch with modern music. I haven't even been watching Glee this year.
I feel like I'm hiding a lot too--or maybe I just get so inadvertently covered up I get lost in all the clutter.

Hope you join us in the Blogging from A to Z Challenge Reflections Mega Post on Monday May 2nd.

Jack Edwards-Thank you~
