Summer of Color-Red

Summer of Color this week is red; I really wasn't sure, what I was going to do. It started with an email I received; it was about the rose that changed everything. Jackson n' Perkins has amazing roses; hubby n' I one year sent roses(bare root ones) to our Mothers for Mother's Day. Anyway, this advertisement for roses, had me thinking. My Mom's birthday is the last day of summer; she has been called "The Last Rose of Summer".   There is  a poem by Thomas Moore. I found this woman's image as a freebie, I will link it later. I can't remember which site, it is between two.  I will find it and share; it has a brownish red tint. I used a red colored pencil and colored in highlighted areas and smudged.  I then made a rose out of some chenille. I found the poem..didn't use the whole thing, printed off what I needed in red, using a 1942 font. I layered it on a book cover and added eyelets. It is a tribute to my Mom, the last rose of summer.
I think she will like it~  You can check out more entries  over at Kristin's at Twinkle, Twinkle blog. She is an amazing host and really talented~ You can also check out all the amazing red art. There is a mix of jewelry, cards, scrapbooking...anything goes!

What do I think of when I think of red...roses of course, red sun at night sailor's delight, strawberries, watermelon, these amazing red shoes, I once owned. I think of pizza, red gravy(spaghetti sauce), and cherry kool-aid.  My family was know in the neighbor hood for cherry koolaid and popcorn, when I was growing up. We were the hang house.  And I think of lipstick, I don't wear red, but I do wear a rosy pink color.  What do you think of when you think of red?

Hi Mandy-I know my son said blood, too. lol Yum, strawberries sound great right about now. The poem is sad, but it fits her and she loves being called the "last rose of summer". Her brother was born on the first day of Fall. Thank you~ xXx

Mary-Yes, yum...I now want some. Another post I went to was about having bkfst at a local Cafe. Yikes blogging can make one so hungry! :D

Okienurse-Thank you; I just hope she isn't reading my blog. She usually only does when I send her a link. :D

Wanda-Good one, I thought of red carpet after and stage curtains. Ours in school plays was always blue; movie theater was gold.

iNews-Thank you :D

What a beautiful work of art for our red week. I love that poem and think of my Mom's future. She bought bareroot roses from Jackson Perkins too! Wish I had some of those old catalogs. My red list is too long to post so I will say strawberries, watermelon and geraniums.
Hugs, Jessi xox

I love your piece, it's beautiful, your mum is going to love it.
So beautiful and I love the way you incorporated the poetry, your mom will treasure it. I absolutely love the image...Rosetti? or Burne-Jones?? I always mix those two artists up but I love just about everything they did...I think of strawberries, which is the theme of my entry this week, but I had like...ummm 45 mintues to work on it so far so I'll be up late tonight.. Never heard "red gravy" before! :)

What a wonderful post - and thank you for your sweet comments. This tribute is absolutely beautiful. So elegant and classic - I LOVE the red smudging on top of the sepia print and your rose is such a pretty addition. Love your work, xo
Red. Giving blood at the Red Cross. Roses, always, and geraniums. Twizzlers at the movies. Lana Turner's lipstick. Bloodshot eyes when I used to have hangovers. Red ink, harsh corrections from teachers at school. Stripes on the flag (which symbolize blood). And my favorite naughty nightgown!! Great stuff, Ella. Thanks for asking! Amy

Red has never looked good on me...so I guess I've never really liked it. Although I am drawn to it...weird-huh? My mom looks soooo gorgeous in red.
