Summer of Color~Purple

Summer of Color this week is purple~ When I think of purple, lavender comes to mind, aubergine like eggplant, grapes, mountains from a distance, the sun setting, Jim Hendrix and yes, Donny Osmond.
I love the song "Purple Haze"; Donny, I believe sang a song, all dressed in purple. I can't find the clip; I remember it though, my best friend went berserk. Purple was her favorite color and she was in love with Donny Osmond, like a lot of us were.  Funny list, huh... My kids would have a different one, but I'm not going there, lol. Yes a dinosaur might be listed~
I struggled with this piece; first I was going to do cards. Then I found this house, I made out of a paper bag a month ago. I found a quote and went from there. It is different, so if you comment different, I'm fine with that.  I thought of home being where you can be yourself.  I also thought of Dorothy saying, "there's no place like home".  I decided to go with this quote:  "There is nothing like staying at home for real comfort"~Jane Austen.  When I went away to camp, I did have a great time, but I missed my home; my routine.  I thought like Jane, I missed where I sit and write, my books, my journals filled with ideas. Purple is a color with many meanings, but peace of mind and calm attracts my attention. This is why  I wove purple with home.

Yes, I added some dried lavender, it calms me and I am thrilled my plant is thriving this year. Be sure to check out Kristin's blog, Twinkle, Twinkle to see more purple inspired art. What do you think of when purple comes to mind?

Alex-You are so sweet; yes I can see the royal robe with it's richness. Thank you; yes, this was one huge pansy in my window box. Pansies don't like the heat...lately, neither do I.

You know, I never thought about purple being a summer color before, but of course it is! I have many purple blooms in my flower gardens.

Purple is many things, isn't it?

I think of purple as royal but also of simmering passion, too.

A lovely collage of both thoughts and weaving.

What a lovely assemblage of beautiful things....I love each one. I especially love the cross at the top, is it crocheted? It's so pretty and so is the rosebud in the middle left. Until last week, I had that Jane Austen quote written on my chalkboard in our entryway!!LOVE it!! Home is my favorite place to be. ~Scarlett

gorgeous. Purple was my favorite color as a child, and now it's my daughter's. And her song is "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star." So how about that? :o) <3

When I think of purple, it would have to be flowers--especially lavendar and hydrangeas--but the ones that are faded and losing their color--that's my favorite shade of purple.
Like your piece--I LOVE the vintage feel of it, and it's this shade of purple that does it for me.
Ella, this is so, so pretty. All the different little bits and pieces make it so interesting. I love it. I think the quote is fabulous too, plus I love Jane Austen. Lavender is the best - It is so calming. :) Have a fantastic week.

Wow, what a gorgeously collaged piece! Just beautiful. I love how you put together all the elements - it's soothing and peaceful to me. I do seem to remember that Donny did have a purle outfit - how funny to remember that! And of course, Purple Haze! that is where my brain is tonight - ha! I got only one sad little sprig of lavender on my bush this year - it froze over the winter. My neighbor is giving me some of her stonger stock - her bushes are stunning.

For me, purple has long been a symbol of personal power and that connects well with the quote from Austen. I love your site banner, what a beautiful way to speak of the color. And your collage echoes with that comfort of home place where all surrounding things link back to the individual. Wonderful post Ella,

Elizabeth
Lovely inspiration for purple week! I, too, thought of lavender and took a photograph of it. :D

Purple is one of my favorite colors. It's so rich and vibrant. It always makes me think of the huckleberry ice cream I used to get when I lived in Washington State. And I always think of this dyed seashell bracelet I got on Coronado Island on my first trip to San Diego. It also makes me think of my fluorite crystal and my chunk of amethyst.
