Words vs. Pictures

The Kiss By Gustav Klimt

Over in the Garden I shared a prompt about a movie, Words and Pictures-I saw and loved.
 Have you seen it?

Clive Owen and Juliette Brioche play two school teachers.  They have their own problems, but daily they inspire their students.   The film was made in Vancouver, Canada-shout out to Sherry, who lives there. It is suggested in the film, they are in my state of Maine.   The premise is words vs art.  Two teachers begin a playful taunt that leads to the school taking sides...what is more meaningful words or art/pictures.     The English teacher recites beautiful lines in the English language-the Art teacher states the obvious.
"A picture is worth a thousand words."  *****

The challenge is to combine words and art.    For the art part-I want  a poem about a piece of art that moves us.   It can be something famous, something a child made for you or a loved one, or  it can be a carved bar of soap.  It just has to move you in a profound way.  Your poem will gives us insight to the 'why'!     Please give credit to the artist-you have selected.

For the word part-I want a quote that reflects a sentiment of the art.  I mean if you really can't find one think of Mary Oliver's  "Instructions for Life:  Pay Attention.  Be astonished.  Tell about it."

Honey Glows

"....all my life...."
I counted your
gold patina
freckles
your
molecular nectar
enchants me as I
dance around your
sunlit forest
smile

Like a bee I am smitten
as you bloom
fireworks in my green heart
bursting red n'
orange Zinnias

Your apricot pink
blush
makes Topaz Queen
jealous
your fair skin
perfumed with white Lilacs

I kiss
your painted cerise tulips
U taste of
wildflower honey
left on your Earl Grey lips
a wildfire blooms
within me
as you
collect
beeswax's glow

Forget-me-nots
grows in my heart
  "....I was the bridegroom,
taking the world into my arms."
your love like
pulverized diamonds
forever
sparks my
eternal heart.

Victorious sunset
love
wins
striations of glacier's ice
I captured
spring forever
in
Laurel's kiss-
"......I was married to amazement."

I love the expansiveness of the language here. So many images and so much action - propelling forward, always forward. Beautiful.
Earl Grey lips - that says a lot!

Hi Ella ~~ I am happy to see how the author of this prompt writes in answer. I like your romantic bend which I would call Spring Love.

At one time I had a handful of art pieces by the masters from which I would finally settle on one. Then I would write the feelings it evoked.

I took a detour and looked in my photo archive and happened on these two showing Box Car Art. My major thought then was to look in on the minds, body and soul of the one who painted. Mostly a why and who question. It sure did not evoke a love thought nor a discord in romance. It could have evoked a RANT against those who deface but I am not the ranting kind.
That was the why and how of my post. Probably had I used Cezanne's work I would delved into why he usually painted the hill/mountain in his background.

BTW, I am also glad you quoted Mary Oliver. She and Ted Kooser are my favorite contemporary poets, favorite from my limited knowledge of them all.

"gold patina freckles" What a beautiful description. This piece makes me smile and feel the wonder of words that express love.
I like your language, and the way you incorporated the quote so beautifully into your poem. (I didn't get that that was what we had to do, so I didn't.)

Rosemary-You didn't have to do that...I left it for you to decide. A quote could of inspired that art or otherwise. It was just a guideline-I didn't plan on that either-lol. Thank-you!

Susie-I thought since most of us get them from someone we love-why not add the patina ;D Thank you~ I thought of all the flowers and why not go with spring.

Jim-I liked that you show cased art that most overlook~ It speaks volumes about how art is everywhere and what we focus on or not focus on~ I enjoyed it~ There is so much mystery around art. I have done art and didn't see the story until after and then was kinda surprised where all of it came from-the tangle of memories unraveling~ Thank you!
I like your title better than mine ;D

Mama Zen-Thank you! Off to go get my Native American deck so, I can return to your blog~ :D

Alex-You make me smile and think thankful I didn't write Earl Grey hips-lol

Buddah-Thank you~ I am intrigued we picked the same piece of art. My daughter just moved into an apartment. I bought this piece of art for her and tucked it away to get it framed. Today, I found it and took it as a sign-that I had to write about it~ She will be home in May, so I can give it to her. The day I bought the poster-I rented a movie. Daughter was with me. In the beginning of the movie-there is this piece of art. So, see I had to go with it!

Thank you!

This is beautiful! Thank you for a lovely prompt, which I sadly wasn't really able to do justice yesterday. Writing inspired by art is usually something I love doing.

This is so passionate. Each stanza takes us deeper into the metaphoric description. Your quote was an excellent choice.

This is a beautiful piece. So many great lines.

absolutely erotic! and pensive. I suppose, sitting in front of this artwork could give this feeling--but the words nail it, pin it down and preserve it for others.

Hi Karen-I hope you like it~ :D

Hannah-Thank you, so much~ I felt the same about yours! It felt like color floating-simply stunning!

Susan-Thank you, so much! I,worried a bit too erotic, but hey art is subjective-so why not! You are sweet~ I will be by to see your latest poem, soon!

Hi Debi-Thank you, so much!!

Ella - you use such beautiful and vivid words--I love the patina of freckles but your word choices are creative and special throughout. Thanks and thanks for the cool prompt. There is an opera by Ricard Strauss called Capriccio (Or Cappricia--I don't know) that is about what is the highest art--music or poetry--it is a bit crazy--they spend the whole opera arguing. (I believe music wins!) k.

Karin-Thank you, so much~ I loved how varied the poetry was in this challenge, yet it all connected our hearts in one way or another~ You are so sweet-I will go find this-I am now curious! I have missed writing poetry. I had an allergy reaction to some meds and I truly became a zombie. I am better and I feel blessed to be back among talented people-like YOU!
