A-Z challenge

Today is the launch of 2013 A-Z blogging challenge.  The A-Z challenge was originated by Arlee Bird, from Tossing it Out.   Lee may be my a cousin-we haven't figured it out yet.   We do  know birds of a feather flock together  ;D   Thank you Lee for this amazing-zestful  challenge!   I look forward to juggling my posts and see how everyone approaches this year's challenge!

My theme is Eco-friendly crafting.  Yes, this could get tricky-especially with my hubby home and our daughter on spring break. I keep seeing him toss things in the trash, that  I could use.  He has been a great sport though-more on that later.

A is for Aluminum cans.

I decided to make a rose.  WARNING:  YOU could cut yourself-I advise wearing gloves.  My friend Ingrid uses aluminum cans in her art.

The Easter Bunny brought Starbucks ;D

I rinsed out my can and cut the top and bottom off with scissors.

At the end of this post is a video I found on Youtube, so you can see the rest of the details.

You wipe the inside and bend it to straighten. Next draw rose petals inside and cut out.

Now pinch and twirl the petals inward, to shape your rose.

I like my rose, but must admit this one was easier!

Here is the video if you want to give it a try:

Wow that's amazing! I'd love to try making a rose like that one day.

I like that you can make something beautiful out of waste. :-)

Oh wow! All from a can. Yes, I imagine gloves are a must!

Wow, that turned out beautifully, Ella. You make it look so easy.

Hiya Ella,
No april fool post I trust :-)
This is my kind of recycling. Pity I have such a hard time defending it.
["What? you're telling me 100 empty evian bottles is not enough??".]
I loved this rose, but beware of the splinters or slivers. Seriously: some ended up in my yogurt. I need glasses.

Do think it's beautiful, but will not try. I cut my hand in seven places the other day, just opening cardboard boxes. :)

I had more band-aids on than a park full of kids! One cut was 3 inches long, me and box cutters--not good!

My husband laughed till he cried, after he bandaged it and yelled at me for being a clutz.

But the rose is beautiful and I enjoy the creativity of folks who use cast offs.

Such a pretty rose, Ella :)

Ella, that is very cool! I'm not all that 'crafty', but that is something I could definitely enjoy doing.

Great theme and looking forward to more!

Now that's one cool craft. I never would have thought to use cans in a craft project in that manner. Best wishes to you in the challenge.

That's amazing but there's no way I'd try it. I'd end up in the Emergency Room!

I'd be with Rosalind. I would need gloves, and even then...Beautiful product from a can--impressive.

I love this! Your whole theme is A for Awesome. Damn I wish I wasn't 1am over here or I'd be out trying this right now. Probably should sleep soon. (: Can't wait to see what you've got for us tomorrow!

Amazing. I don't think I'll try it though. I'm sure I'd end up in the ER

I love how that looks! I'm sure I would cut myself, even through gloves, if I tried. I love doing stuff like that, but I'm a major klutz.

This is fantastic! I totally will try it--and will definitely be back for more eco tips this month. There's very little recycling on this island, and I'm up to my neck in glass jars and paper bags--it feels so wasteful to just throw them away. So glad you found me, Ella, and I look forward to getting to know you throughout April!

Guilie-I so love island life. I have lived on an island in Alaska and Hawaii. ;D Yes, totally different...
Okay, I will see what I can do to help! I totally understand :D I look forward to getting to know you, too~

Carol-Me too! lol Just go slow cut clean and wear gloves ;D If I can do it anyone can~

Thelmaz-I hear you! Best to be smart :D I know about that kind of luck and odd freak accidents-phew..guess I was lucky this time ;D Nice to meet you~

Elise-Sleep! Plenty of time to try this later ;D I know I am like that too! lol You are cute~

I think it turned out so COOL!! But I sure 'can' see why you would need gloves. :)

Hi Scarlett...thank you! It was fun to make, but one must be cautious :D

I'm having issues with the internet!

Thank you everyone for your wonderful comments-I will try to catch up and comment in the morning~

That is amazing, very creative. I'm going share this with my daughter who has been looking at using recycled materials for alternative purposes. Thank you and happy A-Z.

I have a hunch that if I tried to do what you have here, it just wouldn't turn out as lovely and neat as your finished product.

I bow to your absolute awesomeness! I think you have my very favorite theme so far. I love each and every one of these pics and wish I could hang them in my home.

Melissa-YOU are so sweet! I love your theme and always learn so much from you! I have an idea after the month is over. I will email you~

Thank you so much! Wait till letter P-You will laugh! I'm gonna rock panty hose~ xo

Cynthia-I disagree-the one I did was my first rose and only can in the house. I was a bit panicked...
YOU could practice on paper first :D Thank you~

Hi Shannon-Why not beauty up recycled stuff-?! ;D

Hi Suzanne-There is a magazine called GreenCraft that has a lot of ideas. You can find tons of stuff online :D Yes, gloves are a good idea when working with this material. I hope you and your daughter have fun :D

Nick-Thank you :D I love your challenge...can't wait to see what you do!

Canadian Chickadee-I can't find your blog? Thank you so much~ I love chickadees-I'm from the chickadee state(Maine) :D

I know what you mean with juggling kids home on spring break (my kids have two weeks--this week and next). I love the rose idea, but I'd be a little scared of cutting myself. Good luck with the challenge--I love crafty blogs!

That is way too cool. I am the clumsiest person you'll ever meet when it comes to stuff like this. I swear, every time I walk in my kitchen I either burn or cut myself.

The other day my fourteen year old came in, saw me cutting up an apple and INSISTED I give her the knife and let her do it before I "hurt myself." Sadly, that is a true story.

So this is a craft I won't be attempting, since i'm pretty sure i'd end up losing a finger if I tried it. But I'm super impressed at how well yours turned out!
